Starting over meant letting go of what I knew and facing the discomfort of not having all the answers. But in that process, I found strength in my
ability to learn, adapt, and keep going no matter what challenges I face.
I spent almost three decades in crop insurance, becoming the go-to expert in my field. What started as 13 nursery policies grew into a thriving book of more than 200 clients. I did it all—quoting, claims, underwriting, and premiums. My clients trusted me because I showed up for them, and that trust meant I never had to chase business. People simply called, knowing I’d solve their problem.
But then one day, my intern looked up from her computer and said, “Kim, all your policies are canceled.” I called underwriting—no answer. When I finally got someone, she said, “Well, we heard you wanted to get out of the business.” I couldn’t believe it. “You heard? No one asked me!” Just like that, my entire book of business was gone—all because of a rumor. God closed that door.

I had just 30 days to find new homes for all my clients, and because of the strong relationships I’d built over the years, the transfers were completed smoothly. But once everything was finalized, the reality set in. Everything I’d poured myself into had ended without warning. I spent the better part of the year trying to figure out what came next.
One thing that has always remained constant is my connection to this community. I’ve lived in Homestead my entire life. I’ve spent more than a decade with the Women’s Club, served with the Lions Club, and volunteered through my church in countless ways.
Strangely enough, people had always assumed I was a REALTOR®. While helping someone with a policy, they would ask, ‘You’re in real estate, right?’ I’d laugh and say, ‘No, I’m your crop insurance agent.’ But the question kept coming up, and it made me wonder if they were seeing something in me that I hadn’t recognized yet.

Then Tony, the broker at The Keyes Co., called. ‘Rumor has it you want to get your real estate license.’ My first thought was, Here we go with the rumors again. But he followed it with, ‘Come see me.’ When I met with him, he offered to pay for my schooling. That changed everything. Having someone believe in me gave me the push I needed.
The first year wasn’t easy, especially in the chaos of the COVID market. I had gone from being an expert in my field to starting over as a newcomer, and that was humbling and intimidating. But I was in a season of rebuilding physically, mentally, and emotionally. I was doing 75 Hard and committed to becoming a stronger version of myself.
Starting a new career was about proving to myself that I could keep showing up, even when I felt unsure and didn’t have all the answers. I had to learn to be comfortable with not knowing everything and trust that I could always find the information I needed. That mindset became invaluable throughout the transaction process because real estate is constantly changing. No two transactions are the same, whether it is the clients’ goals, the market, or the personalities involved. By staying resourceful and focused on problem-solving, I built real confidence and trust in myself.

Real estate has become so much more than a new career. It is the way I serve people. I walk with my clients through big and often overwhelming transitions, helping them make decisions, solve problems, and feel supported every step of the way. It has truly become my ministry. This work has pushed me, challenged me, and reminded me of what I am capable of, and those early days still remind me there is always room to learn.
One of my earliest and most memorable experiences in real estate was my first open house. I had plastic flamingos left from a fundraiser and placed them in the yard as a lighthearted touch. A friend later remarked, “You just branded yourself,” and she was right. The flamingos quickly became a recognizable feature of my listings, and clients now associate them with my name. What began as a simple moment has evolved into a distinctive way to present homes and reinforce the warm experience I strive to provide.
I take pride in being a hands-on, clear, and dependable advisor for my clients. I guide you through the process, ensuring you feel informed and supported. I provide detailed explanations, navigate key decisions, and address potential issues before they become challenges. My focus includes residential properties and supporting families through major life transitions. As a Homestead native with community connections, I can connect you with trusted local partners and services. My commitment extends beyond closing, and I work to remain a reliable, long-term resource for every client.
Sincerely,
